Evidence Handling

  1. Document the Scene

    • Take photos of the crime scene, blood, bullet casings, and any relevant evidence.

  2. Collect & Secure Evidence

    • Use evidence bags to collect blood samples, bullet casings, and other physical evidence.

  3. Process Evidence at MRPD

    • Scan evidence using the evidence scanner to retrieve all available information.

    • If bullet casings have no registered weapon, create a new weapon entry in the MDT and log all findings.

    • Look up DNA (State ID) information from blood samples.

  4. Report & Document Findings

    • Write an Incident Report or Standard Record in the MDT, documenting all findings for potential cases, warrants, or investigations.

Evidence Scanning

  • Begin by placing the evidence bags in the evidence scanner.

  • Run the scanner to retrieve all available data from the evidence.

  • Capture a screenshot of the scanner results for documentation, ensuring accuracy for records and report writing.

Organizing Evidence

  • Once scanning is complete, store all evidence in the designated evidence locker.

  • Ensure that each item is placed in the locker corresponding to its set name, incident number, or report number, depending on the categorization system in use.

  • This process ensures proper documentation and secure storage of all evidence, aiding in both investigations and case management.
